<div>Records, Documents in Print and Digital Environments [17:610:586] -</div>
<div>Tuesdays 3:10 – 5:50 pm, Rm. 304</div>
<div></div>
<div>This course will survey current scholarship on authorship, reading, and</div>
<div>publishing. The course will examine production and circulation of</div>
<div>knowledge in light of changing technologies, institutions and textual</div>
<div>forms. It aims to provide an overview and a framework for comparative</div>
<div>perspectives on text and image and the history of text technologies,</div>
<div>covering oral, manuscript, print and electronic environments, focusing on</div>
<div>regulatory frameworks in which books are created, circulated and used. It</div>
<div>deals with the nature of writing and text technologies, exploring print,</div>
<div>non-print, and digitality, reception and literacy, communities and</div>
<div>institutions that collect and circulate books and information. The course</div>
<div>will present a critique of the technological revolution paradigm and will</div>
<div>involve a research project in which students will explore an area of their</div>
<div>interest from a perspective unique to history of books.</div>
